MN APTA Leads Effort to Suspend MA Prior Authorization

Thank you all for your patience over the last several months as we struggled with the MA prior authorization issue brought on by the new medical review agent that was selected by the MN Department of Human Services.  Your passion for serving the needs of your clients made this issue a top priority for MN APTA.  On Thursday, April 5th MN APTA, under the leadership of State Government Affairs Chair Kathleen Picard, MA Workgroup Chair Peter Polga, MN APTA Lobbyist Randy Morris and MN APTA Executive Director Tim Adams, led a coalition of providers who met with the Department of Human Services Commissioner, Assistant Commissioner and Deputy Commissioner.  At the end of that meeting DHS announced:

“Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy and Speech Language Pathology services will be removed from the authorization requirement until the end of calendar 2012.  Requests that are in process will not need to be completed.  DHS reserves the ability to perform post-payment review of any claims to ensure payment was made for medically necessary services.  Systems changes necessary to allow claims payment without authorization should be completed by the end of the day on April 16th, 2012.”

This action by MN APTA would not have been possible without the support from our membership through membership dues as well as contributions from you to the Minnesota Physical Therapy PAC.  Thank you!
